Saving images for web 101 Started on: November 4, 2011, 8:01 pm |
erreDecember 26, 2011, 1:28 pm - Before I start with technical stuff I want to explain why web formats are needed: In web everything needs to be as fast as possible. For this you have two options : You increase your connection speed or you make your images as lightweight as possible. |
erreDecember 26, 2011, 1:45 pm - To make your image lightweight you need to sacrifice either dimensions or quality. Decreasing dimensions its an easy fix but who wants to see your vacations in thumbnails? That is when it comes the interesting part. Decreasing the quality while keeping the dimensions of the image and still having a nice picture to show is the reason of the web formats. All of them take different approaches. |

erreApril 11, 2012, 9:52 am - They all use different protocols to make the image lightweight. While Gif groups color groups in areas, JPG gets rid of lots of colors . This of course is just a rough description : ) |
erreApril 16, 2012, 8:28 am - If you use Windows. I recommend a free program called Fast Stone. It allows you to play with "save for web" configurations. |
